Senator Stewart-Cousins is a champion for the environment and is consistently ranked as one of the top environmental legislators by Environmental Advocates. She successfully fought for and voted to increase the state’s Environmental Protection Fund by $9 million dollars in 2014. The EPF provides grants for environmental infrastructure projects that revitalize waterfronts, protect the Hudson River Estuary, improve municipal parks and community gardens and prevent the spread of invasive species.
Senator Stewart-Cousins continues to advocate for a moratorium on hydrofracking until we can be absolutely sure that there will be no adverse or irreversible impacts to public health and the environment. The moratorium would allow more time for the proper studies to be completed.
In addition, the Senator believes that fracking waste should be labeled as a hazardous material.
