(Westchester) – Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Democratic Conference Leader of the New York State Senate, has been endorsed by twelve of the thirteen Democratic members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The Legislators overwhelmingly cited Senator Stewart-Cousins’ experience, record of delivering for her constituents and her willingness to stand up for progressive values as reasons for their support.
“I am humbled by the overwhelming support from my colleagues in the Democratic Majority of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, including the members who represent towns cities that I also represent,” said Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “In the ten years I served on the County Board, I was proud to pass Westchester’s human rights laws, pilot the groundbreaking Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program and create tough requirements for safe storage of firearms. As State Senator I have delivered millions of dollars in state funding for county infrastructure and advocated for progressive issues like a woman’s right to choose, strong public schools and affordable and accessible health care. I thank the members of the Board for their support and look forward to continuing to work with them as the State Senator from the 35th district and come November 6th, as the Majority Leader of the New York State Senate.”
“Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins is an outstanding, experienced advocate delivering results every day for the residents of Westchester County to enhance our quality of life. She fights for critical funding for infrastructure, jobs, housing and the environment and has a progressive agenda for pay equity, women’s reproductive rights and human rights for all. I strongly endorse her for the New York State Senate,” said Board Chairman Ben Boykin.
“As Majority Leader for the Westchester Board of Legislators, I know firsthand the importance of working with colleagues who are true to our democratic values. Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins represents all of Westchester with integrity, never trading our values for expediency. Albany needs more Andrea Stewart-Cousins, not less,” said Majority Leader Catherine Parker.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins has been a long time hard working advocate for residents of New York State and has my full support. She is a leader, a pioneer, and a staunch supporter of Democratic values. We need her and I am honored to add my endorsement to the many others she has received,” said County Legislator Kitley Covill.
“I’m happy to support Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins for re-election,” said County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz.
“Time and again Andrea Stewart-Cousins has demonstrated that she has what it takes to lead Democrats in the New York State Senate. Her intelligence, poise and progressive track record on issues that matter — like protecting women’s reproductive rights and standing up for common sense gun legislation make her the best candidate for the job. I endorse her wholeheartedly,” said County Legislator Nancy Barr.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a devoted public servant who always works diligently for the betterment of her constituents be it child care, women’s health issues, improving worker benefits, housing and protecting seniors. She is always committed and can be counted upon to do the right thing. It is my pleasure to continue to support her as always,” said County Legislator Alfreda Williams.
“Andrea Stewart-Cousins is a role model for all public servants. Her leadership, her intelligence, her effectiveness, and her tireless advocacy for the people of Westchester are exemplary. She has my great admiration and my enthusiastic endorsement,” said County Legislator Catherine Borgia.
“When I think of Andrea, I think of dignity, poise, eloquence and an ever-positive outlook — qualities that are always important but now even more so in the current political climate. It is truly an honor to support her for re-election,” said County Legislator Damon Maher.
“I am honored to endorse Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins as a resident and County Legislator. Senator Stewart-Cousins is responsive to the social needs of our community. She is a hardworking representative especially supporting our Senior Citizens and all of her constituents. We are proud to have her as our Senator” said County Legislator Terry Clements.
“Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins has been an outstanding leader in our State, and a superlative representative for our local communities. As leader of the State Senate’s Democratic Caucus, she has fought for the issues and values that most New Yorkers, and most Westchester residents, care about — living wages for our working families; environmental protection; reproductive rights; a good education for our children; and sound infrastructure. She has also been a strong advocate within State government for our local needs, everything from educational funding to safe roads for our drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Just about everyone in my legislative district knows Andrea — they find her kind, accessible and responsive, and recognize her as a strong and constructive presence in our villages and towns. I support Andrea for reelection without reservation and look forward to her becoming Majority Leader of the State Senate,” said County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky.
“Senator Stewart-Cousins has always worked tirelessly for her constituents in Westchester. Her ability to connect to those she represents and her effectiveness, as both an advocate and a legislator, are why I wholeheartedly support her campaign for re-election,” said County Legislator Chris Johnson.
“It is my pleasure to endorse Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins for re-election. Her leadership and dedication has meant so much not just to her district but to all of Westchester. She passed the toughest gun laws in the nation, is a champion for education, and stands up to Trump especially when it comes to healthcare and protecting a woman’s right to choose. She has a long outstanding record of improving the quality of life for all of our hardworking families. I look forward to working with her continually into the future,” said County Legislator Lyndon Williams.
